Lawyer from Universidad Externado de Colombia, and Specialist in Business Law from the same university; holds a Master’s in Legal Advisory for Companies (MAJ) from Instituto de Empresa in Madrid (Spain); and a Master of Laws (LLM in Commercial Law) from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde (United Kingdom). He is a research professor at Universidad Externado de Colombia, responsible for courses in Corporate Law and Insolvency at the undergraduate, specialization, and master’s levels.
He has served as an auxiliary magistrate of the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice; as a lawyer and (acting) coordinator of the Insolvency Group at the Superintendence of Companies; and as a lawyer in the Distinctive Signs Fund Group at the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. He is an advisor, consultant, and litigator at the law firm Sotomonte, Sotomonte & Rodríguez Abogados; Director of the E-Mercatoria journal of Universidad Externado de Colombia (https://emercatoria.uexternado.edu.co/); author of several research articles and the book “Cross-Border Insolvency: Evolution and Current State of the Matter”; and a member of the Colombian and Ibero-American institutes of insolvency law, as well as INSOL International.
Additionally, he serves as an arbitrator in the conciliation, arbitration, and amicable composition centers of the chambers of commerce of Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Cali, and Medellín; as an insolvency mediator (Bogotá, Bucaramanga, and Medellín); and as an associate judge (conjuez) of the Civil-Family Chamber of the Superior Tribunal of the Judicial District of Cundinamarca.
