Graduated from Universidad Externado de Colombia, with a specialization in Financial and Stock Exchange Law from the same University and a Master's Degree in International Commercial Law from the University of London, Queen Mary and Westfield College. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Universidad Externado de Colombia.

He has been an attorney in the area of Competition Law at the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce and consultant in mining matters at the firm Sanclemente Fernández & Hernández S.A. He was an associate attorney in the area of financial law and capital markets at Prieto & Carrizosa S.A. and partner at the firm Rodríguez Casas & Mejía. He has also been a member of the board of directors of companies in the mining, infrastructure and logistics sectors. Maximiliano has extensive experience in the drafting and negotiation of commercial, mining and financial contracts, as well as structuring commercial and financial operations at national and international level.

He is currently director of the Commercial Law Department of the Universidad Externado de Colombia, where he also conducts research related to International Commercial Law and has published several texts (books and articles) on the subject.
